The settings on this dialog relate to the DT ScanDoc workflow.

Please see DT ScanDoc Overview for information on the different possible workflows within DT ScanDoc.

  • Document capture method

If you are using a properly installed TWAIN compliant scanner, you should click the radio button Scan directly into DT ScanDoc (recommended). This is the fastest and most integrated way of scanning into DT Max.

If your scanner is not TWAIN compliant, or if you need to import already scanned images from other sources, then click the radio button Pick up previously scanned image files from folder ... In that case you will also need to specify the name of the folder where the raw image files are found. You have a choice of specifying a fixed location, or defining a template that will generate the location based on variables such as client number, tax year etc.

For the fixed location you can navigate to the desired folder by clicking the browse button to the right. The template method is intended for advanced users; see DT ScanDoc file and folder templates for more information.

If there is a possibility that the location of the previously scanned files contains image files that you do not want included in the DT ScanDoc file, or contains files for more than one client, then you can check the box to be prompted to select the files from a list.

If you are working by picking up previously scanned files you have the option of automatically deleting all the image files after they have been combined into the DT ScanDoc file. It is highly recommended that this be checked to avoid the possibility that the images files remain and are included by mistake in the DT ScanDoc file of another client.

  • Show the Index dialog

If this is selected the Index dialog will show in a scan job after all the documents have been scanned. This dialog shows a preview image of each scanned page allowing you to rotate it, index it (give the page a descriptive title) or select it to be discarded.

  • Show the Review dialog

If this is selected the Review dialog will show in a scan job after the Index dialog (if selected). This dialog shows the complete list of pages which were scanned, and allows the page order to be changed, index entries to be edited and pages to be discarded or not.

    • Sort scanned pages automatically

Check this box to sort the pages in the DT ScanDoc file after they have been indexed.

  • Produce document summary sheet

The document summary sheet is a page inserted at the front of the DT ScanDoc file that lists all the pages in the file, the user-entered note, and details of the client and scanning date.

  • Open DT ScanDoc file after creation

Select this option if you wish to open the file immediately after it has been created in order to review the contents. The file will be opened using Adobe Acrobat, or whichever program you have installed on your computer that is associated .PDF files. Many scanners include a bundled version of Adobe Acrobat. If you do not have a suitable program you can download and install Adobe Reader for free from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

    • Prevent the user from changing settings on the " Scan " dialogue
If you check this box the user will not be allowed to change settings (such as file name of the DT ScanDoc file) on the "Scan" dialogue. Use this feature in conjunction with the DT Max security system to prevent inexperienced users from inadvertently making errors.

  • Attach spouse's or dependant's DT ScanDoc files to the family head (T1 only)

Check this box to insert the DT ScanDoc keyword link in the file of the family head, even for the spouse or dependants. (This does not affect the name or location of the DT ScanDoc file.)
